NEW ZEALAND OPEN SLOPESTYLE FINALS

WANAKA, New Zealand (13th August, 2010)
HOTZONE.TV Teamrider Seppe Smits from Belgium just missed...

The Burton New Zealand Open Slopestyle finals took place today at Cardrona Alpine Resort with Burton rider Christian Haller (SUI) taking first place in the men’s event and Jamie Anderson (USA) winning the women’s competition. Haller and Anderson both walked away NZ$6,000 richer for their performance on the challenging Slopestyle course which was even more tricky with today’s variable weather conditions.

Due to the snow conditions and morning delays, the competition format was condensed, with all 37 men and 19 women semi-finalists going straight into a single final round, where the riders took two runs, best of which counted for their final score. The low visibility and variable snow didn’t seem to hinder the best riders, with some amazing runs being thrown down regardless. The first feature of the course offered a choice between a down-flat-down round bar or a round down bar, the second feature was a choice between an up box or a gap to flat box, followed by three jumps measuring in at 45-feet, 55-feet, and 75-feet, then finishing with a quarterpipe to goalpost / hip.

Christian Haller put it all together in his second run to score 80.84 points with a backside lipslide on the down-flat-down bar, tailslide on the gap to flat box, switch backside 720, Cab 900, frontside 720 tailgrab. But the margins were tight with current TTR tour leader Gjermund Braaten’s (NOR) first run score of 80.64 points holding top spot until then. Gjermunds run consisted of a frontside 270 gap over the down-flat-down rail, frontside 270 on the gap to flat box, frontside 540, Cab 720, and double back rodeo 900. Coming in third with 79.00 points was 2010 Burton US Open Slopestyle winner Mikkel Bang (NOR). Mikkel’s run started with a gap to switch backside lipslide on the down-flat-down rail, backside lipslide on the gap to flat box, backside 540, Cab 720, switch backside 900.

In the women’s competition, Jamie Anderson (USA) took her third straight New Zealand Open slopestyle title and had this to say about her win, “I can’t believe it, I love the Burton Opens and winning this event three times in a row is amazing, so I’m ecstatic and so stoked to start of the year with a good result.”

Jamie’s winning run earned her a score of 79.20 points and consisted of a boardslide-to-tailpress on the down bar, a frontside 180 out on the up box, switch backside 180 mute, backside 360 mute, and a backside 180 mute. Coming in second place behind Jamie was Burton rider, Shelly Gotlieb (NZL), who held it down on her home turf with a great second run earning her 74.56 points. Rounding out the podium in third place was Kjersti Buuas (NOR) who also had a good run that scored 73.60 points.

The newly developed Snowboard Live Scoring system (SLS) was used today by the judges, which gives scores for each individual hit during a run that is then combined with a flow score to provide a more transparent final score. Viewers of the live webcast on GO211.com were able to see this system in action and watch real-time ranking changes, among other features of the site.

The Burton New Zealand Open marks the first stop on the prestigious Burton Global Open Series and is also a 5Star event on the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour.

Click here for the slopestyle results

BURLINGTON, VT (August 6, 2010) As a sequel to their previous cutting-edge product collaborations, Burton Snowboards and leading British fashion designer
Paul Smith have once again teamed up for the Winter 2011 season. This time, their collective partnership moves from apparel and outerwear to hardgoods, with the co-design of the 2011 Burton Vapor snowboard.

Available this month in Burton authorized retailers worldwide, the Burton Vapor snowboard represents both the finest in snowboard technology and artistic design. This season it sets a new standard of polish and refinement, with its sleek graphics styled by Paul Smith. The black, glossy topsheet is strong and sophisticated featuring Paul Smith’s signature and Burton branding, while the base graphic delivers a powerful statement with the tip-to-tail pop of Paul Smith’s iconic multi-color palette.

“It’s always a pleasure to work with the crew at Paul Smith,” says Greg Dacyshyn, Chief Creative Officer at Burton Snowboards. “This is our fourth collaboration, and the two brands really have become connected in our understanding of one another. Creating a snowboard together was the natural next step, and the Vapor was the perfect platform, given its legacy for rider-driven technical innovation combined with iconic designer-driven graphics. Paul Smith epitomizes what the Vapor is all about, and they took it to the next level with the 2011 model.”

“Burton Snowboards is a company I admire very much and I have enjoyed working with them over the past four years,” says Paul Smith. “To see my signature stripes on such an innovative piece of equipment as the Vapor snowboard is a great compliment.”

The 2011 Burton Vapor snowboard sets the industry standard when it comes to high-tech snowboard construction.
Summer Feast 2010 in the SNOW DOME Bispingen

For a whole week the spotlight in the SNOW PARK Bispingen was directed on spectacular freestyle...

Meet and greet..!

After a big meet & greet with all the riders, the legendary Summer Feast had finally begun, and after some first warm up runs, one thing was clear! „This is the best SNOW PARK Bispingen ever“, was the conclusion of the participants! Everyone was stoked about the perfect setup and a successful opening day. And thanks to the local shapecrew around Till Reinken, Jonel Fricke, Benny Urban, Moritz Nolting, Malte Casper, Torge Nagel and Florian Kirch, this was not supposed to remain a one hit wonder. Also on the following days the funpark presented itself in shiny conditions and all the visitors were keen for the upcoming events of the week.

Evening sessions..!

Day two started with a generous and strengthening breakfast and continued with a hilarious freestyle session. By the time the number of motivated freestylers increased and the SNOW DOME Bispingen was getting fuller and fuller. For those who still had too much energy left in the evening, and that was almost everybody, a funny „Jibpark“ had been built on the camping site, right behind the SNOW DOME . The day ended with the „Highest Ollie“ contest, which was won by Kane Holz with an amazing jump, 1.45 meters above the ground!

There comes the sun..!

By wednesday, all campers were happy about the sun finally coming out after some mixed weather conditions at the beginning of the week. Now it was time for the ultimate „camp feeling“ and a tasty BBQ-evening by the catering service of the SNOW DOME Bispingen.

For all the people sitting in the beer garden, not only their juicy steaks made them smile but also the skateboard session on the mini ramp in front of the hall, which continued until the sun was gone.

Sideevents..!

Thursday and Friday were characterized by really hot park-action, fun side events and a board test by Nitro and Vee-Do Balanceboards. Subsequently followed by the „Red Bull waterslide contest“, the „Drinx 4 Trix“ Rail Jam and the obligatory evening „Sunset Session“. The Red Bull event truck was also on site, and contributed to the action with a lot of pretty cool beats. During the water slide contest the riders showed a lot of creativity and some people even used an inflatable armchair to get over the water! No worries, the whole action was captured by filmers and photographers. Even after the sun had disappeared, the party at the Freerider Soundstation went on until the morning hours. Headshaper and speaker Jonel Fricke summed it up with the statement: „Its hard to get something like that up in the mountains, right?!“

Finally Contesttime..!
As the weekend arrived, not only the camping site got more and more busy, but you could also feel the growing tension caused by the big finals of this year´s Summer Feast that were about to start! About 50 riders fought for gold in the categories Snowboard Men (16+), Snowboard Youth (until 15 years), Snowboard Girls and Freeski Men & Girls. On that day the judges definitely had not an easy task, because the riding level was just crazy. Especially on the rails and boxes, due to extensive practice sessions and a lot of runs the weeks before. After the 1,5 hour jam session the judges announced the competitors for the upcoming finals.

The best „Kicker Run“ and the best „Jib Run“ out of three runs counted, and soon afterwards the winners were finally determined. In the category Snowboard Youth the two shred-buddies Jan Mauritz and Tjark Fritsch made rank one and two, shortly followed by Benedikt Wagnitz. Especially in the categories Snowboard Men and Freeskier men it was a close call. Simon Houlind from Denmark finally won the snowboard competition with stylish fs boardslides tailbonk out and technical fs bluntslides 270 out.

Pricegiving and final party..!
In the evening the winners were honoured with prcious Pro Shape Boards from Santa Cruz, but also the second and third places were quite happy about their prices. Day tickets for the new AREA 47 in the Ötztal valley, new back protectors from Booster and wintertickets for Sölden. The final party at the Dorfwirt, lasted „in usual Bispingen manner“ until the morning hours and continued on the camp site where all campers celebrated until sunrise.

What a week! Every day was a highlight itself. The setup was great and thanks to the shape crew always in top condition. So big thanks to the organizers, the shapecrew and the sponsors who made this gathering possible! But no worries the next event is soon to come! On the 25./26.09.2010 ist party time again when the legendary Fall Weekend will be held in the SNOW DOME Bispingen for the second time.

See you there!

HOTZONE.TV snowboard pro team riders at Spring Classics Kaunertal

For the 8th and 9th of May 2010, HOTZONE.TV team daddy Lars Oesterle and the up-and-coming snowboard talents Georg Huber, Tini Gruber and Thomas Tramnitz out of the HOTZONE.TV snowboard pro team set out for the Kaunertal Glacier to check out the snowpark, which has brightly been polished for the Spring Classics.

One ought have expected sunshine and summer camp feeling on a weekend for the Spring Classics at the Kaunertal Glacier in May. But instead, the weatherman predicted snowfall and changing weather conditions. Team manager Lars Oesterle and the HOTZONE.TV rookie team riders Tini Gruber, Georg Huber and Tom Tramnitz were even more amazed, when the Kaunertal Glacier welcomed them with fresh powder on Saturday morning. No one would have expected to begin the day with a warm-up session with powder and bluebird in the middle of May. In the afternoon, some motivated snowboarders insisted against flat light and snowfall and had a lot of fun, taking advantage of the free coaching sessions with the HOTZONE.TV snowboard pro team riders on the easy-line kickers and jib-line. The next morning, the sight of a freshly shaped snowpark made everyone look forward to a great riding day at the Kaunertal Glacier. Not only the superpipe was shining majestically in the sunlight. Together with some snowboarders, who had travelled to the glacier from many directions, the HOTZONE.TV snowboard pro team riders had a great session on the kickers and showed their best 3´s, 7´s and 9´s. The afternoon was under the sign of classic rail sports. Motivated coaching pupils made their first boardslides and backside lipslides on the rails and boxes, while the snowfall was increasing again. At the Kaunertal Glacier, the winter is not over, yet! This is, what the HOTZONE.TV team riders agreed upon, when they went back home on Sunday night!
